SIHH and Basel Fair Review Part 1
As avid fans of the watch making world, I am sure you have already seen and read all about the amazing watches unveiled at this year’s SIHH and Basel Fairs. I want to focus on a few of the pieces we will be receiving here at Marcus.
In first place has to be the Audemars Piguet Concept GMT Tourbillon. Not a new watch, as the GMT was first launched in 2002, but this version is quite something. Refreshingly different from the recent black carbon and ceramic watches, AP have re-launched the model in brilliant white ceramic. In fact the ceramic is so ultra-hard, it takes a diamond tipped machine tool eight hours to make one bezel. The middle case is in titanium, and the white theme is then carried through to the crown and pushers as well as the rubber strap. Even more special is the upper bridge which uses an hourglass shape also in white ceramic, giving the dial a beautiful and perfectly symmetrical frame, with the visible tourbillon on the left, and the second GMT time zone on the right.
This watch is bold and a visual delight, which matches perfectly with the Offshore's sporting history. With the combination of a tourbillon, GMT, 10-day power reserve which is water resistant to 100m, a 44mm diameter size, and the bright white finish, you have an avant-garde designer timepiece for the connoisseurs who want to stand out and be counted.
